A few days ago, I finally received World Adventures and the accompanying Prima Guide in the mail. It installed without a hiccup and I jumped right in to play for the first time.

Meet Jamie Jolina.

She was one of the Sims in the Library with a slightly interesting story. Something along the lines of “Can beauty and brains form a winning combination?”. Well I tell ya… that blush makes her look more like she was slapped repeatedly. So after plopping her down in a rather nice lot, I sent her off to CAS.

Ahh, much better. Since I was on a time constraint, I just changed her make up. I didn’t worry about her clothes. They weren’t entirely hideous.

Since I had never played in Riverview before, I chose that as the neighborhood. Then I found a quiet country cottage for her to start out in. 2 bdr 1 ba. Here it is.

And the inside.

Thus begins the story of Jamie Jolina, hopeful world traveler & adventurer.

This is going to be a rather short update for reasons which will soon become apparent.

Soon, Carrie and Mara noticed strange oddities happening around the house. Objects moved from one place to another, neither girl able to remember moving the object in question. Eventually they were able to faintly recall their childhood experience of encountering their father before the science lab had “restored” him. Both Mara & Carrie smiled at the thought that their parents were keeping an eye on them even after they passed on. And perhaps it was that belief that made it possible for the first appearance.

Passing through the living room one night, Carrie noticed her father standing there, smiling. To make sure she wasn’t dreaming, she passed a hand through him and experienced quite the chill.

Then experienced quite a shock as she rounded the corner on her way to the kitchen for some warm milk and saw her mother standing there.

Carrie was happy to know that her father and mother were keeping each other company. It had worried her that perhaps her mother had moved on, leaving Marq behind.

Okay…. so at this point I left my computer for whatever reason (this happened back in August so I don’t remember) and my Sims game continued to run. I don’t know for how long. All I know is that when I came back I saw this sitting in the kitchen.

Groaning, I looked around and there was Noni… alive and well. After much debate, I have chosen to continue the story from this point instead of reverting to an earlier save. But sheesh this messed up my plans!

The staggering loss of Noni and Marques had Carrie rethinking her intention to leave home. Despite the fact that she felt like an outsider, she realized that all she ever wanted was acceptance. Now that they were gone, it was something she would never receive. But perhaps instead she could mend the fences with her sister. They had been estranged for so long, Carrie didn’t know where to begin. So she simply invited her to dinner one day at the Bistro where she worked.

They talked for hours about inconsequential things. Their relationship was on its way to being repaired but far from completely. A lot more time was needed.

While Mara returned to her studies, Carrie began looking for, and noticing, men around the town when she went on her daily excursions. The ache that was the loss of her parents began to make her realize how important family was and now she was thinking of starting her own. She remembered an old friend from elementary school, Norman Song. Inviting him over, she learned he was a coffee courier at the Doo Peas Corporate Towers. She didn’t think he was “the One” but decided to keep him on her potential list just in case.

For her 30th birthday, Norman took Carrie out to a fancy resturant for dinner. Carrie dressed in her finest and they had a wonderful time. Upon returning home, she was surprised and delighted to learn that Mara had secretly gotten her a birthday cake and intended to celebrate their birthday together. This was a first in a long time. Carrie closed her eyes and wished that everything would continue to get better as she blew out the candles.

Then Carrie lit the candles once again so that Mara could have her turn.

Both continued to be lovely women.

Long Story Short: So far so good. Custom content appears to be working. I did have issues with Riverview which I solved. Nothing appears borked for the moment.

Short Story Long: Once I remembered that I had changed the VideoCamera.ini file and restored the original I simply moved that file along with my edited resource.cfg file to my desktop and patched the base game.

Then I stuck in the World Adventures disc and installed without a hitch.

Ran the Launcher to patch it to the latest version.

Moved my Mods folder from my original Sims 3 install to the same place in the World Adventures folder. Moved the resource.cfg file from my desktop to the base WA folder.

Left my camera mod out since there does not appear to be a similar folder within the WA folder.

Initially was concerned because it wouldn’t recognize that I had Riverview installed. Couldn’t reinstall it because it insisted it was there. Eventually did something so that it showed up in my Downloads folder and (re)installed from there just fine.

Ran game and Riverview now showed up. Started a new ‘hood with Riverview as the base and some chick out of the library. As I was changing her appearance and making her house spiffy I noticed that custom content and booty items were there in the catalog.

Now waiting for my 2 year old to go to bed so I can explore some more and get a chance to play around in new countries!

The family knew that Marques had been “living” on borrowed time. But they were never sure how long that was going to be. Years had passed. The twins, Carrie & Mara, had grown from toddlers to young adults. Everyone had become so focused on furthering their dreams and careers that family time had fallen to the way side. The twins no longer needed help with their school work or anything else and Noni had taken her husband’s presence for granted. And so it was that Marq quietly passed on for good.

Marques Burke, loving father, wonderful husband. You will be missed.

Once again, he became only a sensed presence in their lives.

With only the occasional reminder that he was still around.

With the final passing of her husband, Noni too felt that she had accomplished all that she had dreamed of. A devoted husband. Two wonderful daughters. The perfect garden. A complete recipe book. A position as a Top Chef (even if it was only a diner). It was time for her to hand the reins to the next generation. Taking one last look at her lovely garden, Noni too passed on.

The girls were, of course, devastated. Losing both parents in such a short period of time shocked them beyond disbelief.

They placed the ashes of their beloved parents in Noni & Marq’s room. Neither could imagine sleeping there.

Noni Tallinu-Burke, hard-working, single mother of twins. Premier chef. Green-Thumb extraordinaire. You will be missed.

With their new young adult status, Noni and the twins decided to splurge a little with the extra money they had been saving to spruce up Mara and Carrie’s rooms. Once more, Carrie deferred to her younger sister using the same reason that she was never in her room anyway. Although she did choose to decorate the room in colors to match the outdoors as well as adding a plant. The room continued to be a storage room for their childhood toys by an unspoken request. On the other hand, Mara chose to decorate her room in dark colors as her favorite color was black. She repainted the easel to match even. She also wanted a chair so she could study in the seclusion of her own room. Then she made one request to Carrie; Mara wanted a computer. Unfortunately, there was no way one would fit in her tiny room. Since her twin’s room was so sparsely furnished, she asked if a desk and computer could be put in there to be shared by everyone. Reluctantly Carrie agreed, with the stipulation that it match the rest of her room. Noni chose to do a few small things that she felt would make a big difference. First she matched the colors in both bathrooms, instead of having a hodgepodge collection of mismatched fixtures. Finally, she rearranged and added furniture to the living room to make it a more inviting area to entertain guests in. The result was very satisfying.

Rather than buy a car, Mara decided to take the money she saved working at the bookstore and buy a partnership in it. For a mere §20,000 she proudly became the owner of Divisadero Budget Books. Since she no longer attended school during the day or the bookstore at night, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming an Illustrious Author. The next few months were spent busily tapping away at the keyboard.

Carrie spent her days (and most of her nights) away from home. She took her love of the outdoors to a whole new level. When she wasn’t working she could be found jogging around the neighborhood collecting rocks and bugs that interested her. She donated many of the bugs she found to the local science department. The pretty rocks she often kept for herself or sent them to be appraised. Quite frequently, if they appraised well, she sold them outright, pocketing the money and depositing it into her secret stash. Other times Carrie could be found at the gym especially when inclement weather threatened.

Noni spent her time learning what little she didn’t know about cooking. There wasn’t a whole lot to learn because she had been cooking and learning her entire life, which has been quite long.

Then one day she realized that there was nothing left to learn. Feeling very accomplished, she closed her book and congratulated herself.

She headed to work later and prepared a special recipe. Noni presented the dish to the hungry dinner customers of her dowdy diner. It became an instant hit. Later, her boss discovered that a food critic had happened to be present that evening. The critic had written a raving review of the dish, giving the diner a 5 star rating. This earned Noni a promotion to head chef of a five star restaurant.

It seemed as though nothing could go wrong.
