Ramblings & Some Random Screenshots

Here’s a few screenshots that I just can’t fit into the story line I have going in my head. I mainly took them to show off some of the features of the game.

My first impressions were that this game is basically the Sims 2 but you can watch the neighborhood progress with you. The graphics aren’t really better. Additionally, from what is being said by others, custom content & mods may not be allowed and in fact, difficult (if not impossible) to add to the game. Currently, it requires that the core game files be altered and how many of us really want to do that. On top of that, it would force us to choose one mod over another since both mods may alter the same file in different ways. Also, according to the EULA, they are saying that custom content and mods are not allowed.

This, I believe, is a huge mistake on their part. They’ve already mentioned in the past that custom content is what has made this game a huge hit. People are able to make their games into whatever their heart’s desire is. Medieval, futuristic, current, or even fantasy worlds are possible in the Sims 2.

So, as I previously mentioned, you are not limited to your own house *per say*. You are free to roam the neighborhood and watch it while your Sim(s) does his or her own thing. I actually like watching Central Park while my Sim is at work. Check out the reflection of the moon on the water.

And here are some random picnic-ers.

While your Sim is at work, you can choose what kind of work they’ll do, each having a different affect on your Sim. You can see the career tab also on the right hand side of the UI. You can use those icons to determine what kind of work you want your Sim to do that day.

Also, if you are wondering why my Sim’s bathroom is pink… You can select the lights in this game and choose which color the light(s) will be. I chose first pink and then magenta for the bathroom. I believe it is magenta in the picture above. Then for the candle in the bedroom, I made it purple. First though, I made the entire house purple:

Plants in this game don’t last forever. I didn’t play Seasons enough to know if they last forever in the Sims 2, but I was sure surprised to see my plants were “dying of old age”. I have to start saving my seeds! You can see my dead Tomato Plant in the screenshot below.

I send Noni out regularly to find seeds but she also comes across other collectables. Bugs, ore, and gems. When you first collect the ore or gems, you click on them in your inventory and for a price you get the ore smelted or the gems cut. You can then either display them in your house or sell them for a profit. Here is a result of one of the gems that I sent out to be cut.

In OFB, you could set the prices of some (or all) objects lower or higher. In the Sims 3, you’ll randomly get notifications of when certain businesses have sales. So far I’ve seen sales at the book store and also at the grocery. Since I grow my own food, the grocery sale doesn’t do me much good, but here’s the shot!

I was quite surprised when I left her to her own devices for a short while. She decided she needed some entertainment so she grabbed a book off the shelf in the study and instead of sitting in the nearest chair or on the floor, she walked all the way to the bed, relaxed on it, and started to read.

The friends panel is now very awesome. Yes, you have to jump through hoops in order to actually get to know your friends, but once you do, you can hover over them and learn their traits, job, and marital status. My favorite part is that you can click on them from there and call or invite them over! No more locating your phone, clicking to call a Sim, deciding which Sim you are going to talk to or if you are going to invite them over. You can just click em from the friends panel. Granted, you can still do all that if you choose to. But I find it easier from the panel. The first screenshot I chose because of the name. It was so close to “Burke Marquette“. Second is the call/invite feature.

My Sim ate some bad food sitting in her inventory (at my prompting) and it didn’t make her feel so well. Quite hilarious. I wish I could have gotten a better shot but it happened too suddenly.

And I think that is all for my random shots for now. I need to play a little bit longer and write the next part of the story. Hope you enjoyed!

I agree, not allowing custom content or mods is a huge mistake on EA’s part. I guess they just don’t want us getting better stuff for free and want to make us pay for their crappy non-working stuff. 🙁

Okay, that is so cool that you can change the colors of the lights like that! Good to know that we need to save our plants’ seeds. But yeah, they actually last a very short time in Seasons, just long enough for a single harvest of fruit/veggies. Unless you kill them first.

It’s too bad you can’t turn the ore and gems into jewelry. That’s cool about the store sales! Kinda like the fliers we get in the papers. *giggles*

I’ve seen other shots of them “skill reading” in bed and I think that’s AWESOME!

I love that you can call from your friends panel. Too often, I send a Sim to call, get distracted by something or other, and by the time their phone book has opened, I forgot who I wanted them to call and have to cancel it, look in their friends panel to see who they should talk to, and try again.

Hahaha!!! I love her getting sick out there, instead of running to the bathroom. *snickers*

Well I was able to harvest each plant several times, but I didn’t think to count how many. So it isn’t a single harvest luckily.

I’m not sure if they can be changed into jewlery. I was already overwhelmed with stuff to do that I simply sold them once I smelted/cut them. The only one I saved was the meteorite because of the flavor text. You can see it sitting on the table in the death scene.

Yeah, her getting sick was hilarious. She was asleep and woke up with the “Nauseous” moodlet. She ran through the bathroom just to go outside and heave. LOL.

  2. Well, looks like you answered my previous post’s question about the graphics. I kinda figured that would be he case. That’s too bad, but we all kinda expected a TS2 version 2. ;O)

I agree with everything Aer said (regarding custom content and EA f’ing us over on that) … and the lights in the bathroom. :O))

If you keep in mind that it isn’t supposed to be a sequel, it is alright. I kind of think of it as them blending TS2 and the console games (the Stories to be exact).
