Accomplishments All Around

Entering high school, Carrie began to buckle down in school as her sister always had. She had aspirations of moving out, getting away from her family that never seemed to care. Many a night after dinner now found the girls seated around the dining room table doing their homework or extra credit work (in Mara’s case).

That hard work wasn’t just limited to studying. Noni was finally able to find, plant, and nourish a money tree to full growth! Perhaps now their money troubles would start coming to an end.

Money Tree!

Marq finally received a promotion at work, receiving a patrol car as a reward which he could take home every day instead of needing to car pool. Perhaps if they could make enough money they could finally get a car for the entire family.

To help reach that goal, Mara got an after school job working at the bookstore. She was ecstatic when she learned they accepted her application. Now the problem would be not spending all her money there! Carrie just scowled and called her a goody-two-shoes under her breath. In an attempt to once more receive attention from her mother, Carrie constantly tried to improve her cooking and gardening skills. These efforts took up most of her free time and so she was unable to get an after school job.

On her way home from work one night, Mara realized suddenly that it was her 21st birthday. She was finally an official adult! Well, young adult at any rate. She wasn’t ready to move out by a long shot. In fact, she was planning on staying home and taking care of Noni when she finally retired. After all the hard work Noni put in raising them as a single mother (at least until Marq was resurrected), Mara felt that she deserved to be taken care of in her old age.

This, of course, also meant that it was Carrie’s 21st birthday. She, on the other hand, couldn’t wait to get out of the house. She was tired of her sister always showing her up. Tired of her parent’s inattention to her. Tired of school. The last day of classes was one of the happiest days of her life. And upon this milestone, she immediately went to the Little Corsican Bistro and applied. Since she didn’t have any experience, she had to start at the bottom as a Kitchen Scullion but that didn’t matter to her in the least. Carrie could finally start saving up money to get out of the house and out on her own!

I’m glad Carrie figured out she had to do well in school to get ahead in life. I just hope it wasn’t too late.

Congratulations on the promotion, Marq! And good luck with the after-school job, Mara.

Happy birthday, girls! And wow, you two couldn’t be more different if you tried, could you. *shakes her head in amazement*

Good luck, Carrie! Here’s hoping you’re able to move out soon. (So who will you continue to follow and control? Mara or Carrie?)
